We've had a few comments both positive and negative on the event. It's weird how, when thinking about these, you think the subject is quite tightly defined, but when you start digging into the guts of it, just how broad the topic turns out to be.

I definitely agree with the comments about getting into the 'how to' in more detail, but within the format of the events, that can be difficult as it often necessitates a much more technical discussion, which doesn't always include the whole crowd.

We're hoping to find an opportunity to re-visit this topic - we did it last year with the Widget event - in a few months. Last time, this was really illuminating as it allowed the panel to reflect on the changes that had happened over the last few months.

The podcast will be available for consumption in the next few days on our site and through the iTunes feed:

Thanks for writing it up.

I fear any attempt to develop 'industry standards'. The last thing we need if we're going to help clients understand the conversations they (hopefully) are setting in motion is new standards, statistical models and clever software that counts impressions et al. let's help them with some in-focus qualitative analysis.

I suggested the idea of some standards and am going to see how far we can run with this (I will need support from the bigger players if it's to get anywhere) but Giles from Magpie has been in touch today so we'll see what we can do.

I agree that we didn't offer much value on understanding the topic - perhaps with a bit of prompting we could have talked more about what you can measure and how rather than pointless tittle tattling about who's right and wrong.

[...] Niche Portal Blog wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerptChinwag: the length isn’t in measurement yet February 19th, 2008 by Wendy McAuliffe ’ ’ Last night’s Chinwag Live event was all about measuring the effectiveness of social media - a brave subject matter, bearing in mind that many are still getting to grips with what social media is, let alone grasping the new metrics associated with it.
