The next social media must have!

March 4th, 2008 by Andy Merchant

So what is the next social media must have?

Well you guessed it, it’s the life stream, digital footprint/social media footprint, or whatever you want to call it.

Trust me, soon everyone will have one! So what is it? Well it’s basically your online shadow or the many aggregated RSS feeds of whatever your social networking life consists of.

For example; if you digg a lot - RSS it, if you have a Flickr account and upload photos all the time- RSS that, if you save all your bookmarks to del.icio.us - RSS that too, and if you twitter all the time -RSS that as well, get the idea? All those RSS feeds are then put into your life stream sites and ‘hey presto’ when you bookmark a new post or digg a news story, your ’shadow’ or life stream posts it on your social media footprint site. Now people visiting your streams can see instantly in real time what you are up to, usually with a small description / link / photo given.

I am pretty sure that businesses will see the benefits of this soon, it’s a great one stop shop for organisations to put all relevant news, related news, press releases, photos, company blogs and online conversations in one place, at one time and as it happens.

On the downside it means all your competitors can keep very close tabs on you! But then again social media is all about transparency and sharing.

All the tools and applications to get you started can be found here.

The problem with these services is that they only aggregate your public data…

“There are many who claim to do good PR differently and then there’s Liberate Media. I found a higher degree of contacts and enthusiasm and then something far more interesting. They listened, challenged and questioned with a focus and knowledge that I’ve never experienced before.”
