Twitter on the rise and rise

August 22nd, 2008 by Andy Merchant

As the Twitter phenomenon continues, I was amazed to see some of the Compete statistics for the microblogging site over the past 12 months. It is ranked 625 out of the top one million sites visited on the Internet. Other similar sites including Pownce and Jaiku seem to have been massively left behind by the Twitter juggernaut.

Hide

Date: 07/2008 People Month Δ Year Δ
twitter.com 2,218,330 21.9% 413.4%
pownce.com 141,022 -6.6% -46.2%
jaiku.com 75,205 -28.2% -6.4%

As just a token comparison I also checked out Amazon.co.uk - it came in at 744 out of the top one million sites visited on the Internet.

You would have though a massive internet retailer would be more poular than a microblog, but it just goes to show that social networking rules!
